Festival Looks

 Optimus_Alive_poster

Optimus Alive (Nos Alive from tomorrow), one of the best European festivals starts tomorrow with the Arctic Monkeys as headliners. The tickets are sold out for that day and the band led by Alex Turner really deserves it since they are one of the best rock bands in the world. The only band who won a Brit award three times. Last year I saw Depeche Mode and it was one of the best concerts I saw in my life. But if you were lucky enough to get tickets here are some suggestions to dress according to the event.  It’s going to be hot, so comfy clothes and footwear are a must.  Regarding bags, backpacks or a crossbody bag are the best options because they allow to enjoy the concerts hands-free and are perfect for carrying essentials like a cell phone and sunglasses. So, have fun and embrace the festival spirit.

Yves Saint Laurent – A Genius Who Revolutionized Fashion

yves_saint_laurent_poster

Last Sunday I went to see Yves Saint Laurent. The movie traces the life of the French designer Yves Saint-Laurent who at just 21 years old takes over Christian Dior. After the first triumphal show he meets Pierre Bergé. They set up a partnership in life and business and create the haute couture house Yves Saint Laurent. The man responsible for creating the smoking for women revolutionizes the fashion world with his modern and iconoclast approach. Pierre  Niney’s performance is brilliant and compelling. A must see movie for all the fashion lovers.  Below you can watch the trailer.

Get into the Christmas Spirit with these Festive Picks

Glee – Christmas episode (characters dressed as elves)

Christmas is almost here and it’s that time of the year which means lots of gatherings, cooking and shopping. For those occasions you want to look good while staying comfortable and with a festive touch, these pieces will do the trick.   Christmas jumpers are great to capture the festive aesthetic.  Try a Christmas jumper paired with a pair of cigarette trousers and high heels for a look that is both joyful and stylish. If you like red and green which are traditional colors of Christmas, a red or green coat will keep you warm and you can wear it over your work outfit. You can be festive in a subtle way by wearing a scarf or a pair of earrings with Christmas motifs. So, Merry Christmas and enjoy the holiday season.

Lisbon & Estoril’13 Film Festival

The last two weekends I went for the first time to the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival. This year the festival also took place in Lisbon. I wanted to see The Story of Adele which won the Palm d’Or in Cannes but it was sold out.  I saw the following movies:
My Blueberry Nights directed by Wong-Kar Wai and with Jude Law and Norah Jones in the leading roles. It tells the story of Jeremy who runs a cafe in New York City and there he meets Elizabeth and during a conversation with Jeremy she finds out that her boyfriend has dined in the cafe with another woman. The cafe becomes a healing place for Elizabeth who finds comfort in the blueberry pie baked by Jeremy.  It’s a pleasant movie with good performances and a great soundtrack.
Night and fog in Japan directed by Nagisa Ôshima. It’s a movie from Japan. The movie begins with a marriage celebration of two young students who belong to different political movements. The ceremony is interrupted by uninvited guests who accuse the couple of forgetting their political commitments. I liked the movie because it shows something of the Japanese history and culture.

DocLisboa’13 – The Meeting Point for the Documentary Film

Yesterday, I went for the first time to DocLisboa which shows documentary films from all over the world. I saw the documentary ‘Kidd Life’ from Denmark that tells the story of Kidd, a young rapper who did an upload of his music on YouTube and in 6 months it had more than one million of views. The director follows the project during 18 months and it captures the highs and lows of Kidd. It’s a very realistic portrait of a young rapper in his trip from being a total anonymous to being a national celebrity. Below you can watch the trailer.

14th French Cinema Party

The last two weekends I went to the French Cinema Party and I saw three movies:
Du Vent Dans Mes Mollets (Dandelions) is a comedy and it tells the story of a 9 year old child Rachel who is very protected by her parents. One day she crosses path with the intrepid Valérie and they become friends. It’s a refreshing look about family and love relationships with a big dose of humor.   All the actors’ performances are brilliant.
Hiroshima, Mon Amour (Hiroshima, My Love) is a classic movie of the French cinematography and it tells the story of a French actress who is doing a movie in the Japanese city of Hiroshima, which was devastated by the nuclear bomb at the end of 2nd World War. There she meets a Japanese architect with whom she has an affair and she evokes the past and the doomed passion for a  German officer.  The movie uses miniature flashbacks to create the storyline.
Les Amants Du Pont Neuf (The Lovers on the Bridge) is the story of two lovers, Alex, a fire splitter and Michèle, a beautiful vagrant and the scenario is the oldest bridge of Paris: Pont-Neuf.  My favorite scene is the one where the two lovers put to sleep people with ampoules.
